An extra skip and hop (or ferry ride) from neighbouring Denman Island, and you’ll reach the costal community of Hornby Island! The forests, beaches, and open skies on this special island are home for many children and families. Despite its distance from the Comox Valley, Hornby has many programs and resources to offer the community, including young children and parents.

HIES responds to the direction of the community. Under our Community Programs, we initiate, facilitate, coordinate and sustain programs in a variety of areas that meet a broad range of community needs. The society provides the platform for the Natural History Centre, The Community Kitchen / Food Bank, Child, Youth & Community Programs and Life Long Learning. The primary mandate of HIES is to provide accessible services and programs for all island residents who wish to participate.
Programs and offerings change with each new season, so be sure to check in regularly with the DICES page.
