Affordable Child Care Benefit

On September 1, 2018, the Affordable Child Care Benefit replaced the Child Care Subsidy. The new funding will help families with the cost of child care, depending on factors like family size, type of care and household income.

Supported Child Development Program

All families have similar hopes and dreams for their children – that they will be happy, have friends, enjoy learning and live meaningful lives. Inclusive Childcare settings can support these hopes and dreams by planning for children of all abilities. The Consultants in Supported Child Development and Consultants for Indigenous Children and Families in Aboriginal Supported Child Development walk alongside children, families, and childcare centres in their journey towards inclusivity and the hopes and dreams that families have for their children.

WHAT IS SUPPORTED CHILD DEVELOPMENT?

It helps to increase the inclusive capacity of childcare centres by providing consultant support and potential staffing support. We work with the idea that we can support centres to plan for every child to be included in all aspects of the program, regardless of support needs.

WHO CAN USE THIS PROGRAM?

Children from birth to age twelve years old who are attending childcare and would benefit from additional supports being available to their childcare setting.

DO I NEED A REFERRAL TO USE THIS PROGRAM?

You can call the Child Development Association and ask to speak to our Family Advocate about the Supported Child Development program or Aboriginal Supported Child Development Program. You can speak with any CVCDA service provider to submit an internal referral to this program. If you like, a doctor, public health nurse or another community professional may make a referral on your behalf with your signed consent by filling out a referral form found on the CVCDA website.

WHAT HAPPENS AT FIRST?

A Supported Child Development Consultant or Consultant for Indigenous families will meet with you to determine how we can best support your child, your family, and the centre your child attends.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Low and middle income parents may apply to the Ministry of Children and Family Development for the Affordable Child Care Benefit and the additional special needs supplement.
